Petrified Wood- it’s basically wood turned to stone, a fossil. This petrified wood is millions of years old, and from Indonesia. 🇮🇩 In the late Teritary period, blankets of rainforest surrounded volcanoes throughout Indonesia. After volcanic eruption eliminated any microbes that would rot the wood, the wood was then replace with silica rich minerals such as chalcedony, quartz, calcite, opal and jasper. The wood gets it’s beautiful colors from assorted trace elements. Traces of manganese create blue and black colors, while traces of iron are what creates these different shades of brown and orange. You can see that is one is full of iron. It also has some pink tones, which I love!
